Home - Maltese Puppies
According to some — the Maltese was taken to Malta by Phoenician traders more than 2,000 years ago, it is likely that the breed remained pure, although today’s Maltese may be the result of crossing between miniature spaniels and the miniature Poodle.
The Maltese is known for the striking contrast between its white coat and dark eyes and eye rims. However, the long, silky coat of good length needs plenty of care if it is to be kept in the best condition and looking smart, for although the coat does not shed, it easily becomes matted. The head hair is usually tied up on top with a neat bow.
The Maltese is a sweet tempered breed which is intelligent, alert, and full of fun. Height should not exceed 10 in (25.5cm) and weight is usually about
4-6 pounds (2-3 kg).
BREED FACT:
Maltese were regarded as ‘meet playfellows for mincing mistresses’ and were often carried around in the sleeve as a ’sleeve dog’.
